UnrealED for summer!

Post by Rickshaw » Sun May 28, 2006 11:01 am

Now that school's over I'll have a little more time on my hands. So I decided I would try to make a few maps and mods (especially after seeing the MH-ShootingGuys map :D).

However a lot of the old resources are littered with 404 Errors and such, so I thought we could compile a list of current UnrealEd tutorials and tips.

I like Squacky's site a lot. It's not as cluttered as the Unreal wiki and you can download the tutorials in case the site suddenly disappears :wink:

Here's the beyond unreal wiki, which most of you have probably seen :P

You're out of school? Bastard. I have to wait until June 9th, wtf is that? Other schools already ended, and I have to go two more weeks?

They're trying to oppress me.

Anyways, once you learn Unreal Ed I want someone good at map-making to make me a map. I'd learn but I don't have enough space on my PC to save maps.
Go Alucard, go go Go!

That is the lamest excuse I have heard yet. I would have believed "My dog pee'd on my monitor" or something else. :D Saving maps is not a huge chore in UnrealEd nor does it take alot of space.

@ Rick, your right alot of good tutorials are disappearing from the web everyday. I'd suggest getting a program that will go in and save the tutorial website for offline use, or better yet go to our wiki and download a file called CUERAG.ZIP (The Complete Unreal Ed Reference Guide (Excellant Collection of UnrealEd Tutorial in Ebook Form)

CUERAG is a collection of tutorials in Ebook form for both the begineer and advanced map makers.

I started a UnrealEd Discussion area on the {qoou} wiki. (heh always pimping the use of our wiki) I'll move your links later to the the UnrealEd Discussion area. It'll help put all of our links in one place. I already posted a MonsterHunt Mapping link there.

Everyone feel free to add to our wiki. Just register, click the edit tab on the page you wish to add to, and have at it. Don't worry about screwing it up, there are ways to unedit and return the page back to the original.

I am looking for another mapping project. I think it would be interesting to make a {qoou} community map ie. someone starts one, gets to a point and turns it over to someone else to add to. and so on etc...

For anyone making maps, contact me when your ready to test it online, I know a someone who has server and likes to add to it constantly 8)

wiki links (they are still being built, but here is a start);

UnrealEd Discussion Page - http://wiki.qoou.com/index.php/UnrealEd_Discussion

Smantie has 162 MB left on his pc. There's no way I'm willing to spend any more space than I absolutely have to. Does that sound fair?

@Smantie

Maybe it's time to clear off some of the "not used so much stuff" you have. What size hard drive you got? If you don't have a cd or dvd writer or any other way to save backups, then your in for a mighty fall someday. When it comes to PC's there are 2 types of people, those who have had a hard drive failure and those who are going to have a hard drive failure.

If you need room, let me know I may have a usb zip drive I could send ya. Then you could build a map :wink:

I got your pm about your map idea, sounds good but would take a lot of time to make IMO with so many launching possibilites. Good idea though.

Yeah I run on 19GB. I've got another comp on the network with a CD burner with 13GB I save all my old stuff to, and that's got 1GB left. :(

Yeah, I need to buy a zip drive but I haven't found a good one or a cheap one. They're relatively easy to find too which makes me mad.

You really liked the idea? That's cool. It's super difficult, but I'm sure it's not impossible to somehow copy the parts of each map where the launches are necessary and merge them with a new map. You could have teleporters to each area or something.
