Haha yeah I'm fine. We did evacuate, but only for a day. It was crazy... the city was like a ghost town and there was smoke and ash everywhere. Hordes of fire trucks though... When I went to the gas station on Tuesday, there were 10 fire trucks filling up, one other regular car, and me.
Monday night, a house about a block from mine went up in flames which is crazy because they were further away from the main (Witch Creek) fire than we were. Apparently the wind carried an ember about a mile to their wood roof, and it caught. As we were evacuating, we had to drive past the house, which was completely engulfed in flames by then. We're lucky though because there's a pretty big/dry field across the street from us that could've caught fire way more easily than that roof.
We have some close family friends who's neighbor's (both across the street and next door) houses burned down that same night. The fire went through our friends' backyard and all the way up to their house, but never caught onto it. They were really really lucky.
Then on Thursday, George Bush and Arnold Schwarzenegger were in my city at the park where I used to play soccer games. Bush's helicopter landed on the football field at the high school where I go and play football every thanksgiving. They shut down that entire side of the city to make that happen, so I couldn't go see them.
On a more tragic note, we also have some friends of friends who unfortunately were found burned to death in their home. They most likely didn't hear the fire coming until in was on their house.

Oh and when we evacuated, I was in my acura, had the cat on the front seat in a box, and had my laptop and desktop's hard drive in the back.special_Kare wrote: just remember to save 3 things, the acura, the computer, and the cat.!
