Ping problem.

Today I was playing on the =]DoG[= and {qoou} servers and my ping was abnormally high and jumpy. This has happened to me before. I've rebooted my computer, reset my cable modem, cleaned my cache, and done about everything I could think of and was suggested to me. None of those worked. The previous times I ended up reinstalling UT and I don't want to do that for a number of reasons. It takes too long and I have to reset my keybinds and aliases. It's quite bothersome to do.

I've talked with other people and they've had this issue before. Does anyone know how to fix it by any chance?

I don't know if this is the same thing Lorus was talking about or not, but it seems slightly different because I'm not "choppy" I'd say.

Your ping is going to be high on DoG no matter what because it's a euro server. :P I don't know about the qoou server though.

My ping on DoG is usually 116. Having it higher than Alucard's ping (his is usually around 220) at 233 and over, you know something's wrong. Plus it jumps over 300. PHat has a similar problem.

I assume my problem is outside of UT, because whether i'm in UT or checking Xfire my ping for the servers still are over 300-400, i'm just wondering what is using it... :?

I thought that too, but it's clearly not because if you reinstall UT it doesn't have that problem.

Don't have anything helpful to say except if you decide to go that route (reinstall), you can make a backup of your user.ini file. ;)

Yeah, thank you. Each time I've reinstalled before I haven't (in my infinite noobness) and that sort of screwed me over once or twice or more.

I think I have the problem fixed. I renamed my UnrealTournament.ini file and copied the important sections like the key to open the console (I reset it so I can type a tilde) and my server favorites, et cetera into the new UnrealTournament.ini file that UT creates automatically. That seemed to work for some reason, although I encountered the problem again briefly today. I shut down UT, told it my internet connection was a 56k modem, and booted it back up and it worked fine.

Isnt it of course the farther the server the more hops so that equals higher ping? Isnt it about the hops? :D And no SK im not talking about beer hops :toast:
