New Orleans On Google Maps
It's a shame this didn't happen during Bush's first term, maybe we would've had Kerry as president right now!One of the most salient issues, I think, is that this is exactly what the Bush Administration was supposedly MOST prepared to prevent. Throughout the last 5 years, Bush has asked the American people to forgive his (many) shortcomings on the basis that he was keeping the American people safe from harm--both at the hands of terrorists and at the metaphorical hands of natural disasters. He is, in his own words, a "security president," so where is the security? If you believe that keeping the American people safe should not be the Federal Government's job, then what the hell IS the Federal Government's job--making sure that American business gets everything it wants?
Just a day or two after the disaster, Bush said in his first major speech that "There was no way for anyone to know that the levees would break." This represents either an outright lie (lots of people knew the levees would break under this circumstance) or gross incompetance (if Bush didn't know the situation, he should have).
The most deplorable thing, though, is that (as usual) the Administration is totally incapable of owning up to its mistakes. Many of the most outspoken critics of Bush and his followers could be silenced (or at least partially quieted) with an apology that makes it clear that Bush himself is taking responsibility for something that happened. President Truman used to keep a sign on his desk that said "The buck stops here," while time and again President Bush attempts to pass the buck off for his failings to someone else.

Nicaragua, better than Wisconsin
Q: What's President Bush's position on Roe vs. Wade?
A: He doesn't care how people get out of New Orleans.

We were somewhere around Barstow on the edge of the desert when the drugs began to take hold. I remember saying something like “I feel a bit lightheaded; maybe you should drive…†And suddenly there was a terrible roar all around us and the sky was full of what looked like huge bats, all swooping and screeching and diving around the car, which was going about a hundred miles an hour with the top down to Las Vegas. And a voice was screaming: “Holy Jesus! What are these goddamn animals?â€
